Low-Cost High-Speed In-Line TMC Solution

posted May 6, 2011 2:18 PM by Judah Holstein   [ updated May 6, 2011 2:18 PM ]

Miracom is proud to release the MiraLabel TMC Solution using the MiraJet Inkjet system!

The system, currently in use by several US newspapers, prints DeskJet Quality address labels, indicias, and logos at speeds as high as 20,000 copies per hour.
The MiraJet Inkjet system uses non-proprietary components to ensure success and completion even on Newspaper production schedules. Standard HP inkjet technology means that a failed head can be replaced by an inkjet cartridge from your nearest office supply store in a pinch. And Ethernet connectivity means your internal IT department can act as your first line of support.
The MiraLabel system is competitively priced, and has a proven track record. For more information, please feel free to contact us using the Contact Us form on the menu.

Quite frankly, up until now Miracom has resisted making available a less expensive version of our inserter software that does not replace the existing I/O components.

We have always felt that the incremental cost of replacing the I/O was well worth the peace of mind and enhanced diagnostic capabilities that modern I/O components offer. While we still feel it is the better option for most customers, we have come to understand that some potential customers just do not have the budget to justify the cost of our full upgrade. Others may not understand the full advantages of, or feel the need for, the better diagnostic capabilities.

Most of our competitors have never replaced the I/O with their upgrades and that has from time to time put us at competitive disadvantage. Several prospective customers wanted our time proved, fully integrated, solutions as well as the ability to add new modules as needed in the future, but just could not justify the price differential between us and our competitors.

Well now you can have it both ways. The Miracom non-I/O upgrade offers the same exact controls that we have always offered including our micro-zoning and address-specific capabilities as well as the ability to interface with upstream and downstream components of all kinds. And, if you decide later that you would like to upgrade the legacy I/O, we can also upgrade your I/O at a later time.

We readily interface to;

  • Planning systems- Pretty much every planning system out there including, of course, Burt.
  • Ad-Note applicators. We can zone control your ad-note applicator just as if it were a hopper.
  • Address Labeling systems. In addition to our own fully integrated MiraLABEL/MiraJET address printing system we can interface to most of the systems out there.
  • Bottom Wrap printers
  • Stackers to create bundle breaks and bundle size changes based on zoning information.
  • Bundle Distribution systems.
  • Palletizers/Cart loaders

Advantages of NOT replacing the I/O

Mostly price - By not replacing all of the legacy I/O in a machine it reduces the cost considerably. In addition to not needing to buy the I/O components themselves, there are considerable labor savings including pre-building of a panel, onsite re-wiring, and testing.

Machine Downtime - In most cases it will reduce the machine downtime down to one day, or sometimes less depending on your production schedule, from the full I/O installation of two to four days.

Disadvantages of NOT replacing the I/O

Diagnostic capabilities – Replacing the old style Opto’s with modern I/O provides superior diagnostic capabilities that allow your operators and maintenance better trouble shoot any problem with the I/O Stream. It also provides enhanced remote diagnostic capability so that Miracom support personnel can remotely check out continuity of the circuits as well as visibility to an extensive number of error messages generated by the I/O.

Aged Components remain part of your machine – The Optos as well as their backplanes are probably getting old. The good news is that in most cases there are replacements readily available.

Software Clutch Control Upgrades Available for Legacy Round and Oval Inserters!

posted Oct 14, 2009 11:11 PM by Judah Holstein   [ updated May 7, 2011 2:05 PM ]

Miracom is pleased to report that we are now able to upgrade Round and Oval Inserters with Software Controlled Clutches. We recently included Software Clutch Control as part of MiraSert Upgrades at the Reading Eagle in Reading, PA.
The Eagle installed MiraSert and MiraPlan on their NP632 Inserter. The system downloads their planning data from their DTI planning system and loads it into MiraSert. Additionally, Reading received the Auto-Clutch Upgrade allowing MiraSert to automatically engage and disengage hopper clutches as required between zones on their NP630. While SLS inserters have had this capability for many years, Miracom is the first to make it available on non-servo driven round and oval machines like the 1472, 2299, and NP630.

Clutch controls were also installed on 4 2299 Inserters at the Seattle Times in Bothel, WA.
